About Darrin

Darrin is a passionate photographer based in Singleton, Western Australia, and has worked in the Pilbara for nearly 30 years. His inspiration comes from finding new and interesting ways to capture a moment in time, always striving to perfect the art of composition, light, colour, and subject.

His photography showcases the natural beauty of Australia, from the harsh deserts, spinifex, and colourful sunsets of the outback to the awe-inspiring seascapes of the Western Australian coastline.

Whether it’s the pristine beaches of the South West or the rugged beauty of the Pilbara while away at work, these contrasting landscapes have shaped the way Darrin sees the world. Mother Nature offers such a wide variety of colour and light that it can truly take your breath away.

Words from the Photographer

I’d love to say photography has been in my blood for most of my life, but the truth is, it all started during a drive home from work. Someone said, “Check that sunset out,” and it made me stop and really appreciate what had been around me all along, how beautiful this country really is.

I picked up an affordable but capable DSLR and started trying to capture what I was seeing. If failure was an expectation, I certainly met it, but I kept going, researching and learning from world-renowned photographers to grow my skills.

I once had the opportunity to escort a professional photographer around a work site and asked him for advice. He shared some great tips, but one stuck with me:

“For every 100+ shots you take, you may get one good one.”

That gave me the push to keep experimenting, keep learning, and most of all, keep shooting.

If you’re looking for a piece of art to brighten a room or something that simply resonates with you, thank you for taking the time to explore my work.
